courtesy of burtinle.com | Somali religious leader, Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys talked to the media about his recent meeting with the prime minister. The two leaders met yesterday before the prime minister left the country for Nairobi, Kenya. He told the media he opposed man-made laws for the past thirty-four years and he is not going to endorse the new democratic government. “Democracy is contrary to Islamic teachings and I told Mr. Geddi to fear Allah and stop working for our enemies” He said.
Mr. Aweys' philosophy is to put aside all man-made laws. He advocates for using the Koran as the supreme constitution of the nation. “Democracy originated in Greece and it allows the public to control the government” Aweys added. He believes the current government is anti-Islam. He is also concerned with Ethiopia’s involvement in Somali politics. Many Somali leaders say the only thing Somalia needs from Ethiopia is to leave occupied Somali land.
Mr. Aweys, a former military colonel was jailed by Mohamed Siad Barre, late Somali president for his opposition to communism. He also made to the list of US suspected terrorists.
