Tanzania: Premier woos Vietnamese Investments Mon. September 11, 2006 08:35 am. -

(SomaliNet) Tanzania’s Prime Minister Mr. Edward Lowassa, has encouraged Vietnamese companies to invest in Tanzania, VNS reported Sunday.
The premier was speaking at a Viet Nam-Tanzania Economic Forum held by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in HCM City on Saturday.
The Tanzanian official said Farming and food processing were two of Tanzania’s priority sectors.
Lowassa said Vietnamese companies could also invest in tourism.” I believe we can cooperate for mutual prosperity," said Lowassa.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania chamber of commerce has invited the VCCI to send a business delegation to Tanzania to seek business and investment.
Tanzania’s director of Investment Promotion Centre, Emmanuel Ole Naiko says that exports to Tanzania from Viet Nam rose from US$2.1 million in 2004 to US$16.5 million in 2005. It reported that exports from Tanzania to Viet Nam increased from US$1.8 million to US$2.3 million in the same period.
Tanzania mainly exports cotton, edible fruits, wood and animal products to Viet Nam while Viet Nam’s exports to Tanzania are mainly rice, garments, electronic components and computers.
