Somalia: Islamic Courts carryout public execution

(SomaliNet) Somali’s powerful Islamists has carried out on Friday an execution on a murderer at public place in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia after convicting him of killing a businessperson while attempting to confiscate his cell phone.
Thousands of people gathered this morning at former police academy square near Mogadishu port where the execution took place to view how he is being put to death.
Many local journalists invited to see the death penalty and make coverage; everyone has shocked when the killing happened. Some were seen vomiting for sympathy.
The Islamic officials stopped all photographers to take shots from the execution.
Abdikadir Mohamed Diriye, the killer, was shot dead at once by seven Islamist masked men who stood in line. Hitting by several bullets on his chest, he suddenly died on the spot.
Mr. Mohamed Diriye was alleged of killing Mohamed Hassan Bare who was working for Al-Towba Company September 10 2006 in Mogadishu.
Among the viewers, there were the relatives of the murdered businessperson including his own mother.
Rahmo Jimale, mother of the deceased businessman told the reporters she was very happy for the execution of the murderer who killed her son. Speaking shortly after the execution, Shiek Yusuf Mohamed Siad known as Inda-adde, the chief security of Islamic Courts told the crowd the Islamists carried out an Islamic obligation. “the execution happened in the face of the Sharia law” he said.
Yesterday, an Islamic court under the union Islamic Courts housing forme dairy factory in Mogadishu sentenced Mr. Diriye to death after pleaded the guilty.
The court also sentenced another man to death while other one was given to life prison.
It is the second execution carried out by the Islamic courts since they took control of the capital city Mogadishu and some other key towns in southern Somalia.
