Somalia: Curfew imposed on Kismayo city

(SomaliNet) The Union of Islamic Courts have imposed night time curfew on Kismayo city, southern Somalia, hours after they took control of the city amid violent protests raged there against Islamic.

The Islamic authorities in Kismayo said the curfew starts from 9:00 pm local time to dawn.

They meant the move as to curb the situation and step up the security after violent demonstrations in the city today in which people were opposing the Islamic Courts following an action that Islamists removed the flag of Somali republic and replaced it with black flag written on the name of Allah and Prophet Muhamad PBUH.

It is not yet known how long the curfew will last.

Kismayo is the provincial capital of lower Juba region and it is the third largest city in Somalia.

It is the last southern port city in Somalia that fallen under the control of Islamic Courts who still conduct to extend their power through Somalia.
