Djibouti wants to mediate in Somalia Talks, to Invite Uganda,Ethiopian Officials Thu. October 12, 2006 01:18 pm. -

(SomaliNet) Djibouti, a neighboring country to Somalia is once again interested in mediating Somalia’s contending parties, Shabelle Media Network reported Wednesday.
According to diplomatic sources in Djibouti, president of Djibouti, Isma’il Omar Gelle was intending to mediate the Somali interim government based in Baidoa, southern Somalia and the Union of Islamic Courts that is more vehemently in control of most strategic areas in central and southern Somalia.
The Djiboutian leader further said he was proposing to invite the UIC supreme representatives, Ethiopian, and Ugandan authorities in the capital Djibouti to end the exacerbating situation in the country.
Djibouti took the first step towards the mediation on Tuesday after its foreign minister Mohamood Ali Yusuf met with Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni and The Djibouti President, Gelle is highly applauded in Somalia for taking greater part in forming former transitional national government (TNG) led by Abdulksim Salad Hassan in 2000.
