Algeria: Earth Quake strikes Algeria

(SomaliNet) Algeria’s western region was struck by earthquake on Thursday night. However, the extent of damage caused by Algeria’s quake is yet to be revealed.

According to Algeria’s local media, the quake affected Algeria’s western region of Tiaret. Tiaret is located 340km west of Algeria’s capital.

Algeria’s local media place the quake at a few minutes after 11:30pm. Local media in Algeria further put the figures of the quake’s strength at 5.3 on the Richter scale.

According to critics, northern Algeria creates an ideal environment for earth quakes. This is because it is found at the junction of Eurasia and Africa tectonic plates.
