Somalia: US troops operate at Somalia Kenya border

(SomaliNet) US troops are reported to have been seen on Thursday involving in military movements at Somalia-Kenya border as Kenya government said it had tightened its security to protect any aggression from Somalia.

According to local witnesses in the area, dozens of American troops could be seen at the border villages those who were in act of operations.

Sheik Ahmed Saad, the leader of Islamic Courts in Lower Juba region, southern Somalia, told reporters that US personels had in several times arrived in the border between Somalia and Kenya.

"We do not yet know the reason behind the military movements by the US troops in Somalia border," he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Dhobley, a small Somalia town near the border with Kenya said that their fighters crushed down video centers in the town and banned the consumption and the sale of Khat leaf inside the Lower Juba region. "Any one who is seen selling or chewing Khat would be penalized in relevant with Islamic Sharea law,"

Earlier, Islamic authorities had imposed hefty taxes on Khat and cigarettes in a bid to dishearten devotees.

The news came as Islamic Courts and member of Somalia parliament started talks in Afgoie town, 30km to the capital in attempt to ease the tension and avert conflict in the region following the failure of the third round peace talks scheduled to happen in Khartoum, Sudan between Islamic Courts and interim government delegates late last month.
