(SomaliNet) Ivory Coast should implement Resolution 1721 as early as possible, according to the United Nations. Resolution 1721 was passed by the UN on Novemnber 1st and is aimed at ensuring a more peaceful Ivory Coast. The United Nations special representative in troubled Ivory Coast on Tuesday urged leaders of the West African nation to waste no time in implementing the latest UN peace blueprint aimed at ending a four-year conflict.
"Resolution 1721 is a complete menu that cannot be taken a la carte. There is a first dish, identification of the population, a second, disarmament, and a dessert, elections," Pierre Schori, who heads the UN mission in Ivory Coast, said.
Ivory Coast's Prime Minister, Konan Banny, was granted more powers to lead Ivory Coast's transitional government under the resolution. "The resolution says he (Banny) should not wait too long. I believe he is going to issue proposals. And he has a mandate to do that," Schori said.
