Allied forces hunting down Islamists in Somalia-Kenya border Thu. January 04, 2007 08:16 am. - Mohamed Abdi Farah (SomaliNet) The Ethiopian backed interim government troops are spreading into the Somali border along with Kenya to capture the escaping Islamists that are believed to be hiding in the border areas, government official said on Thursday. Abdulahi Sheik Ismael known as ‘Fara-tag’ the commander of the 2nd Brigade of the national army in the transitional federal government said today that large number of Ethiopian and Somali government troops have been positioned in Jubba provinces, southern Somalia, where the government said more Islamists who did not surrender themselves or their arms mingled into the society. Mr. Fara-tag said that their allied forces did not meet any resistance from the Islamists. “The Islamists can not fight back because they had already been defeated in the clashes and they are now only managing to sneak through the country,” It is not yet known where Islamist leaders are exactly lingering as the Somalia and Ethiopia forces are involving a joint operation of hunt down the remnants of the Islamist men. Meanwhile, Bare Aden Shire ‘Hirale’ the defense minister of the transitional federal government convened the former army officers in Kismayo telling them to work with the current government and refrain from tribalism. He said the officers should help the government restore peace and stability in the country.
