US federal judge orders the release of once deported Somali man
Sat. May 21, 2005 11:26 am. -

Keyse Jama
U.S. District Judge John Tunheim ordered the government to release Mr. Keyse Jama from jail next Monday. The judge reached his decision after determining the Somali man is neither a flight risk nor dangerous to the public.

Jama was deported to Somalia few weeks ago but local authorities in Puntland region of Somalia refused him entry to the country. Judge Tunheim issued an order prohibiting immigration authorities from changing their deportation plan without his review after Jama was rejected by Somali authorities. He was then flown back to the US and returned to the same jail he was taken from.

Yesterday, this complicated case took a new turn when the judge ordered a supervised release.

Jama’s refugee status was revoked after he got into trouble with the law in 2000. He has been in jail until the immigration department finally tried to remove him from the country last month.
