Somalia: MPs denied to go out of the country Mon. June 25, 2007 12:56 pm.- By Mohamed Abdi Farah. -
(SomaliNet) Reports from the Somalia’s southwest city of Baidoa say that Osman Ali Hassan Atto, a member of the transitional parliament was stopped from departing there to Nairobi, Kenya.
The suspension put before the departure of MP Atto is not clear yet but some sources say that he wanted to hire a lawyer to defend his charge against the Ethiopian forces which he accused of robbing large sum of hard currency and gold from his house in Mogadishu.
The transitional government denied the allegation as untrue. Earlier the government accused Mr. Atto of holding illegal weapons and breaching the 2002 Mbegathi deal signed by the faction leaders.
Osman Atto who is now in conflict with the government led by premier Ali Gedi declined to comment on the move against his exit.
Unconfirmed reports say that Mr. Atto is preparing to travel to Wajid, the provincial capital of Bakol region which borders Ethiopia but it is too early to know whether he will leave there or not.
Also other parliamentarians including Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig and Nasro Abdisalan were blocked from flying to Nairobi.
