(SomaliNet) The security forces in middle Shabelle region, north of the Somalia capital Mogadishu have foiled a roadside bomb plotting aimed to attack the government vehicles using the road to Mogadishu.
Officials said the forces raided local militants who were in act of planting landmine on the road arresting two of them.
“The forces succeeded to remove landmines from the road aimed to endanger both soldiers and civilians traveling on the street, the criminals are now in custody,” said local security official in condition of anonymity.
He added that one of the plotters was killed in an explosion sparked by a bomb which they failed to fix it.
The residents grew concern over the revealed bomb, fearing of more explosives might be buried in the ground.
It is the first time the security in Middle Shabelle region foiled an attempt to attack since the interim government troops backed by the Ethiopian forces drove the Islamists out of the country late December last year 2006.
Meanwhile, one civilian was killed and three others were wounded in clashes between government soldiers and local militiamen in south of Galkaayo city, 750km north of the capital.
The fighting happened when the militiamen tried to build the ground of the soccer stadium building in southern part of the city where they clashed with the government forces in the area.
