(SomaliNet) Somalia’s powerful Islamic Courts announced they will forcefully free Somali cleric who is held in prison by Somaliland authority if they don’t release him safely.
The head of Islamic Courts in Juba provinces in southern Somalia Sheik Hassan Abdulahi Hersi known as ‘Turki’ indicated that his Islamic forces would launch tough measure against the arrest of Sheik Mohamed Ismael, a well known Islamist man by Somaliland.
He said Islamic fighters will go to Hargeisa city and release him from the jail forcefully if the Somaliland authority would not comply with the calls from Somali religious people to let him free.
Sheik Hassan Turki also briefed his trip to Afdmadow town of Lower Juba region saying that his goal is to practice the Islamic law in completely southern Somalia and establish an Islamic authority in each settlement.
He said his troops also reached today in Sakow and Bu’ale environs in middle Juba region where they have received a warm welcome from the inhabitants who have chosen the rule of Islam.
“We would release him from Hargeisa as we had already released the prisoners in Kismayo and Mogadishu,” he said.
Sheik Turki strongly condemned Somaliland authority for the arrest of Sheik Ismael as intolerable. Sheik Ismael was tortured in Hargeisa jail by Somaliland detectives.
In an interview with Mogadishu based Radio Shabelle, Sheik Turki in Afmadow town said that his troops were invited by people in Afmadow, Bu’ale and Sakow who want to be ruled with the Islamic law after 15 years of anarchy.
He said the Islamic Courts would extend its power through Puntland and Somalia in next future, noting that Islamic Courts have supporters in Somaliland and Puntland.
He denied that Islamic forces are intending to attack Baidoa city, the seat of transitional federal government. “We are not willing to launch an attack on Baidoa right now because we are still respecting the deal signed in Khartoum,” Sheik Turki said.
Sheik Hassan Turki, stressed that they would bring message of Islamic Courts to across Somalia from Ras-kamboini to Ras-aseyr, which means from corner to corner in Somalia.
