Somalia: Daylight mortar attack at president’s house in Mogadishu

(SomaliNet) Unidentified militiamen fired mortar rounds into the presidential palace in the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Tuesday as part of series guerrilla style attacks against the interim government and it’s back up Ethiopian troops by allegedly Islamist supporters that hiding in Mogadishu.

Residents told Somalinet that one mortar shell has landed and exploded around 10:45 am near the presidential residence (Villa Somalia) which houses Ethiopian and Somali forces.

The attackers seemed to miss the target as the shell slammed on a house near the palace.

No casualty has been reported and no one has claimed the responsibility for the latest attack.

Shortly after this incident, the allied forces of Somalia and Ethiopia began house to house search in the area in an attempt to capture those who behind the attack.

It is the fourth bomb attack aimed at the bases of the transitional government in two weeks.

On Thursday night, several mortar shells have been fired at the main seaport and airport in the Somalia capital of Mogadishu causing the death of seven civilians.
