(SomaliNet) The hope of reopening the hospital in Bardhere town of Gedo region in southwest Somalia is vanishing after foreign workers of the Medicine Sans Frontier Spain got under attack by local militiaman on Friday.
Reports say that a gunman fired shots at two of the foreign staff of the MFS-Spain as they were conducting this morning assessment mission on the town’s bridge, which had not gotten renovation for the last 15 years.
Both of the MSF workers survived but the action has terrorized the people in the town who are much in need to get outside assistance.
It is not clear why the gunman has attacked the foreign staff.
Despite no one has been injured in the shooting, many people are asking themselves how it would have an impact on the relief activities by the MSF-Spain in the region, southwest of Somalia.
The incident happened when the people in Bardhere are desperately need public health services.
MSF-Spain whose doctors and engineers are in Bardhere said in a meeting with town’s elders and intellectuals that it will take control of the health services in the town and also will rebuild the hospital and bridge.
Earlier the MSF officers set their aid mission in the region with the condition of getting 14-member board that is to work with the organization and also represent all the clans in Bardhere.
The clan elders in the town who were having discussions over the issue agreed to form the board with the MSF-Spain to restart the relief mission soon.
However, the town’s elders are now in discussion with the MSF-Spain officers over how the agency would be convinced to continue its work in Bardhere.
