(SomaliNet) Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia has returned to calm after eight days of heavy and bloody clashes in which the Ethiopian forces along with the interim government troops defeated the insurgents taking over all key rebel positions.
The transitional government has taken control of the whole capital. The allied forces of Somalia and Ethiopia began house to house search for weapons and suspected wounded militia members.
All the major roads in and out of the city are barricaded by the TFG forces for security reasons as most of the insurgents buried down their weapons in what the analyst said is a tactical change.
Despite the fact the premier’s assurance to the people in the capital to return to their homes, it is feared that insurgents might reposition themselves in guerilla attacks on government positions.
Meanwhile, a lot of looting is taking place in the abandon houses in north of the capital.
Coca Cola company based in north of Mogadishu is among the major factories looted by unknown people, according to its manager Bashir Mohammed Arale.
“It is sad that the company is awashed by looters despite the fact that the government took control of the area, all office furniture and company delivery vehicles were taken away,” said Bashir.
Yesterday, the government took firm position on the looting and warned people against such activity.
Speaking to reporters, premier Gedi warned those found to be looting will be facing stern action. He urged all national forces to stay vigilant at all the times.
