Waa lay addimey
Axaddii sidaan
Kuu eegayee
Araggeeda taan
Ku il-doogsadaay
Ma illawsan tahay
Axdigaad martiyo
Meeshaad I tidhi
Waan imanayaa.

Immisaad farriin
Ergo soo dirtood
Oontiyo biyaha
Hurdo aawaday
Uga soommanayd

Eed layga keeniyo
Midna amar Illaahay
Kuma aad maqnaanine
Adigayska baaqdee

Haddaad I tidhaahdo iman maayo
Ma aadeen halkaad ogsooneyd

Anigaa isla hadloo
Mar waxaan idhaahdaa
Ku illaawi maysoo
Way imanne sii joog
Mar waxaan idhaahdaa
Axdigaydin dhigateen
Kola oofin maysee
Samir Eebbe qaadoo
Ka fogow agteedaan
Uurkayga geliyaa.

Arimada jacayl baa
I hogaaminaysoo
Misna kuma adkaystoo
Kama hoydo aydoo
Naftu olol ma deysee.
Indhaaga habeenkii
Ku ilaalinaayoo
Dhammideed addunyada
Afarteeda waaxood
Hadba gees u eegee

Aammusnow habeenkii
Ug baadka iyo dooggaa
Tiiraanyo ooyoo
Idilkood xiddigahaa
Afar qaaday socodkoo
Ubax baan guroo
Soo ururiyoo
Amranow golii
Ooddii madhnayd
Ku ag daadiyoon
Ku ilaa xidhoon
Weheshada idhee

Eedaanka diiggoo
Oogsadey salaadiyo
Waagoo iftiimaan
Keligey inaan ahay
Asaraar ka saaroon
Addimada cuskadayoon
Dib u soo arooree

Qof ammaano lumiyoo
Iibsadey xilkeedii
Samo uguma aaye
Aan kala war haynaan
Ku afgooyey heestee
Maxay adiga kula tahay

Cawar

I heard of Rebsho but he was clearly after my time.

I have no favourite `singer' but I do have favourite lyricist and playwright - the great Ali Sugulle.

Think of this eccentric man's work and life history and you will be in awe. The only reason he is not elected for a Nobel for literature is because he works in a language spoken only by less than 10 million.

Think of the variety and quality of his contribution from the 60s onwards:

Roobka qowqowlow qadhqadhay

Xeedhyaha ha madhinina

Waabaa Beryay

Nimaan dhididine ma helo dheefe

All of these masterpieces stood the test of time except perhaps the last one which was seen as very `Socialist' by the underground reer Woqooyi critics who associated him with the Kacaan; a deadly association at the time artistically among the Woqooyi literati.

But he redeemed himself with the invention of a new art form in the 80s which did not take off but still unique.

In 1983 Axmed Saleban Dafle and Maxamud Axmed Laxwas; both northerners and his school contemporaries; were dispatched by Siyad Barre to the North shortly after SNM declared its armed struggle.

Sugulle interpreted the grievances of the people in a new format never heard before. This is what he said:

Saleeban Dafliyo ina Deylo Kude ma nalkii dameey noo daarayaan
Iyagaa dulmino loo doodayaa maxay doonayaan?

Genius.

Lol@after your time..

Galol

Ahmed Rabsha is very old school for me, cos he left Somalia sometime in the seventies I think
I only came to like him in the 90s.

So I wouldnt know that much about Sugulle...eventhough I take your word for it ..lool

Try track 8, you will understand it I believe..its in Arabic..alla Sudanese/Somali style.
