"Among the more ghoulish minds, the pictures of the two dead Puntland commanders might have helped quench the popular thirst for revenge. It also proved beyond doubt that Puntland lost the battle: any army who leaves its commander's and deputy commander's corpses on the battlefield, cannot reasonably claim victory."

Somaliland attacked and ambushed 2 sarkaals on their way to work around the frontline in adhi cadeye. They captured them life and took them as pows, which later on after getting the bad news they killed them in their cell.

Their main goal was to subdue the seat of sool and close down the imaginable border in boocame, but in turn they faced a stiff resisting from the puntland army and were defeated badly. They were inflicted with heavy cautialties, 100 deaths, over 25 prisoner of wars, un accounted numbers of wounds. In contrast puntland suffered very little caustialties if any and was able to push back the aggressors.

After math of that ill fated attack somaliland had to look for other means to negociate and end the tension. Through the ethiopian mediatory, they were able to get their p o ws back and had to retract from their long stand of closing the border. Which btw is never going to happend. Matter of fact hartis are bound to close down the real border in lawyacade with Djbouti very soon Laughing Laughing . Laughing

Its facinating what is worse, exageration and Hubris or Delusion and Fantasy.

On the Somaliland side wallahi almost everyone believes that Puntland is a non-issue and that Somaliland can take Garowe and Bossaso in days. Most people dont devote themselves to thinking abut Puntland but are only interested in Somaliland affairs. This is ofcourse innacurate and an exaggeration of our capabilities.

Now on the Puntland side i have seen something worse.
Fantasy and Delusion.
They completly ignore all facts and create thier own fantasy that they vehamantly believe.

Fantasy number
1.For some strange reason it is commonly believed that Somaliland attacked and was in the offensive during the adhicadey conflict. How can you attack something you have been holding for months?
Puntland launched a surprise attack on an unprepared Somaliland force of around 200 men with neary 1000 puntland millitia and they still didnt achieve anything.

2.The use of the nealy 30 somaliland Prisoners of war is seen as proof of victory.
They forget that those were supposed to be patroling outside of Adhicadey, but woke up in the early morning to see themselves surrounded by puntland millitia on thier way to adhicadey. Not a single shot was fired, they just put thier hands up. These were captured before any fighting even started.

3.They complain about thier prisoners bieng killed or mistreated but forget that thier prisoners were captured during combat
and most had injuries before ending up in Burco.

4.Puntland millitia should have rushed the small garrison of 200 in adhicadey when they had Surprise, 5 times the numbers
and allot of turncoats in the Somaliland army providing detailed information.
If they did they would have taken adhicadey and the arms and fuel dumps in the area plus take more than 100+ prisoners.
That would have been a victory, instead they just slowed down and had artillary duels outside of the village.

5.When SL rienforcements from Yaqori attempted to cut them off by heading towards Lascanood and enveloping them
instead of going to adhicadey, the Puntlanders were smart enough to Run like hell, but i admit it was an ordered retreat.

finally a clear sign of the outcome was that SL troops were in xargaga 10km away from LA and thats were your dead and prisoners taken, Not Adhicadey.

Ethiopia is our neighbour and sees Mogadishu as a threat to the restoration of peace. It also sees the capital as a suitable place for terrorists who hide and use it as their launching pad against all of our neighbouring countries. I have to thank also Kenya for being supportive and helpful to the Somali government.

Gurey, at least Ethiopians are not trying to endanger the territorial integrity of Somalia, but your secessionist enclaves strive for working against the unity with actions that translates itself into keeping the capital in flame. You people are treasonous and dark forces of destruction and division.

Saxib, you bombard us daily with political rhetoric that supports the return of anarchy and warlordism. While you vehemently distinguish yourself as a seperate "country", you can't tolerate the fact that the transitional government, with all the international assistance, is working very hard to reconstitute our state and restore one lasting peace.

INTERVIEW-Somaliland says Somalia unrest helps statehood bid
Fri 7 Jul 2006 12:22:58 BST
By Alistair Thomson

DAKAR, July 7 (Reuters) - International unease over last month's seizure of Somalia's capital Mogadishu by Islamists may help the self-declared breakaway republic of Somaliland in its quest for international recognition, a Somaliland minister said.

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 when President Mohammed Siad Barre's overthrow plunged the Horn of Africa state into chaos. The country was then carved into fiefdoms by warlords who were forced out by the Islamic Courts Union in June after heavy fighting.

Somaliland's government and its supporters say their enclave has maintained relative peace and stability while Mogadishu has become a byword for violence and chaos, and that this should be rewarded with greater international recognition.

"Somehow the bad news travels faster. I think the (recognition) process should have been accelerated long ago, but now with the situation in Mogadishu, that is happening," Somaliland's Information Minister Abdillahi Duale told Reuters.

"We are not taking advantage of what is happening unfortunately in Somalia. That is not the point, what is the point is that we have a legitimate case," Duale said in a telephone interview from Gambia, where he spent last weekend lobbying delegates at an African Union (AU) summit.

No foreign governments have recognised Somaliland, but diplomats say some governments in east and central Africa have privately supported the independence bid.

But there has long been a preference in Africa -- stemming from the AU predecessor the Organisation of African Unity -- to keep the borders defined at independence intact, for fear of opening the floodgates to a host of secessionist claims.

Somaliland President Dahir Rayale Kahin's government says it has a special case since Somaliland, formerly ruled by Britain, was independent from June 26, 1960, until it voluntarily joining the rest of formerly Italian-ruled Somalia on July 1.

Somalia's transitional federal government, which now only controls the small town of Baidoa, has said it opposes the breakaway move by Somaliland.

GROWING SUPPORT

The Brussels-based International Crisis Group think tank said in a May report that support was growing for Somaliland's statehoood case, but it added that without a negotiated separation the dispute risked descending into violence.

Duale said during the AU summit in Gambia he and Finance Minister Hussein Ali Dualeh had met several African foreign ministers, some African leaders, Britain's Africa minister David Triesman and a U.S. State Department delegation.

"All in all we have been quite satisfied with our dealings. We were not expecting at this stage outright recognition, but it was brought up at the ministerial level meetings. A number of countries brought it up and it was discussed," Duale said.

But he disagreed strongly with the call by the AU Peace and Security Council for the United Nations to relax an arms embargo to allow Somalia's transitional government to build up its security forces and pave the way for a regional peace force.

"In every household there are at least six guns, big or small, so you're talking about a country that is already awash with weapons. It's beyond reason to believe that the AU and the international community is encouraging (ending the embargo)," Duale said of Somalia.

"We are not out to take action against anybody, but if we feel our peace is threatened, then we will not hesitate to take action against them," he said.
