SHIDOW1: An Interview
Get in here, I have some Questions about Kenya I need to ask, and the Sijui people. Many questions in fact, and I welcome all Swahili speakers.
I have this monkey on my back and I need to get it off, this monkey is a Swahili word that I've been called since age 3 and I need to decipher it; among many other things.

Re: SHIDOW1: An Interview
Ever since I could walk, and yes---I did learn to walk at age 3, I was a bit slow growing up---I was called "Madh Madh Kitoonga."
It doesn't sound Somali, so can you tell me what it means. It must have to do with 2 things:
-My beak-shaped lips
-My tendency as a kid to smash my head into walls, it was something even my dad did as a kid

Re: SHIDOW1: An Interview
Wow, I feel dumb now.
Madh-Madh is a local phrase coined by Reer Jamaame (my hometown) for people named Mohamed. Madh-Madh Kintoonga (Mohamed Kitoonga) was the nickname of a local Sufi Sheik, and my family just gave me his name as a formal greeting, and since then they called me that since our names were so close.
It literally has no meaning, just a local spin.

I haven't smashed my head into a wall since 1994, and they still call me that name.
