Some Confused About The Owner of the Hijacked Ship!

Post by Kramer »

BBC says its North Korean! (and why will America help north korean ship)

The crew of a North Korean cargo ship, with US Navy help, have overpowered a group of pirates that hijacked the vessel in waters off Somalia.

Reuters says its South Korean (this is more believable)

NAIROBI, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Somali pirates have captured a South Korean cargo vessel off Mogadishu port in the latest seizure in one of the world's most dangerous waterways, a regional maritime official said on Tuesday.

Yahoo News is saying its Japanese (burmese and Filipinos)

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - A Japanese chemical tanker with 23 Korean, Filipino and Myanmar crew on board has been hijacked off the coast of northern Somalia, a piracy watchdog and officials said Monday.

There were conflicting reports regarding the Golden Mori vessel, with others reporting it was Panamanian, while other reports saying it either was a North or South Korean registered ship.

Kramer,

Its prolly N. Korean because they go to places where most commercial ships (including S. Korean) will not go.

I don't care who the ship belongs to, I support these young men for protecting the Somali waters from Illegal fishing and nuclear waste dumping activities. They are the last heroes of Somalia.

Screw,

The ship was not carrying any waste. The ship had finished offloading goods at the Port of Mogadishu and the security staff hired to escort them back out to sea turned around to hijack the ship.

Screw,

The ships containing food aid are not legitimate. The situation is so bad that the WFP could not find ships to go to Somalia to carry food aid and had to use the more expensive/less effective of shipping food by truck overland to Somalia.

A lot of Somali depends on imports for survival and hijackings of ships carrying goods for Somalia makes imports more expensive and scarce because few ships are willing to go there.

I support these guys. they are protecting the Somali territorial waters and bring in hard cash into the Somali economy while they're at it.

every ship gets hijacked, incl the ships carrying food aid. but at least the message is clear to the illegal fishers and they are the worst victims to date. collateral damage comes with the territory.

we need our marine resources to rebuild our country man, so this illegal fishing is not to be considered lightly.

WFP can afford to do that. they have the resources. the bad that happens in these waters outweigh the good, and for that sacrifice must be made. attack every ship, kill everyone on board. takbiir!

Starscream,

Why not be selective about the process ? Why go after ships carrying commercial cargo to Somalia for Somali businesspeople ? Or those illegal fishing vessels ?

The pirates do not bring hard cash into the economy for the benefit of every Somali but make life more expensive for the majority through increased charges for cargo freight to Somalia

Abdiwahab252,

We may be paying a price for it, but considering what we could lose if we don't, it's hella worth it.
