somali fundraising.....

Post by zulaika »

I'm sure ya'll are familiar with them. some for schools/hospitals back home, some for community developmental causes etc etc..I don’t personally discern on which fundraising I toss my hard earned pennies at…if its for a good cause and is devoid of political motivations, I’m pretty much game, just tell me where and when. So I’ve been to few here in t.dot and they are almost always poorly organized and terribly executed. In addition to what I find in cumbersome is that most folks attending are only there for its social aspect, dinner and dancing…its like they paid a cover and came to party, they don’t have a clue as to how the said fundraising will reach the intended target….basically follow up is seldom taken by any of the donors.

I recently decided to follow through to see how my donations were being administered by the fundraising groups involved. I was shocked. Shocked Shocked First of all, almost half of the money raised was paid to the venue and other miscellaneous elements, plus other applicable administrative cuts. don't hire a DJ(i'm actually opposed to DJ's and wild parties @ a fundraising events) but if u do...get em' on a charible note, i know a lot of them that will donate their time and effort...and some singers have been known to waive the fee they charge. but that's not even what bothers me, these organizers have at times received money from government branches for community support so that can have these kinds of events..and where is that money u may asked..why don't they use it instead of dipping thier hands into the money raised to cover the cost of the event?...

Calaa kuli xaal when all was said and done, it was a time and money well wasted. I won’t name names but certain “charitable” groups within the Somali community in Toronto are corrupted, disgusting, and vile pieces of nothing, operating under the banner of somalinimo and desecrating the name in the process. The sad thing is that these groups are receiving government funds/ and aid to help further their non-profit causes...no profit my azz... I just don’t get why they never get audited by the feds and those who blindly toss money at em’.

Anyways, have ya’ll ever been to a Somali fundraising and was it as bad as some of em’ here are.

Maybe they need to be more transparent.

I went to a few fundraisers and they all listed the expenditures and the net amount sent to the needy.
