[quote="salafi_student"]I just wondered why in the world would the Brits, Yankees, Canadians, Danish, etc, etc, bring foreigners to their countries and more shockingly handout their citizenships to strangers like your salves? there must be a hidden agenda.

What do you think?

Dear salafi_student, I do agree with you this Landic divission of Somalia is un-necessary, but can we learn a lesson from the Europeans? Germany, France and Britian fought for 1000 years and found peace delivers better than hostility? Read their history and compare it with E.U today. How can we achieve peace in Somalia? Consider Somaliland too.

The idea of all this migration is because population growth is slowing in the West and therefore they need more people to fund their pention fund.

Also assimilation helps this countries sell their idealogy. An example is An American Somali will identify more with Americans than British or French Somali. So if we have a somali president who lived in America all his life or for considerable time white house will find it easy to deal with him as compared to one who was born and bred in somalia.

In a way it is a neo - colonization more in an idealogical way! But I dont see any problem with that as long as we know who we are and what we want!

Leila, great analysis of western interests in migration, but why do Migrants migrate and why do some migrants succeed enhancing their country of birth through economic and educational influences on the system of governance in the West more than others. The Jamaicans and Somalis are a poor example. The reason is we all come to the west divided and escaping each other in our own countries. Sorry dear Leila2007, I hate conspiracies, it is victims against villains.

It depends withreason for migrationand why people migrate. For somalis they are fleeing violence which is understandable which ever country they end up in. For them it is a matter of survival and we address why we are still fighting and subjecting more people to live as refugees either in Mogadishu (today) or in the west.

If you look at the Green card initiave why do America want 1/2 million from all over the world not including South Americans who cross the boarder each day. Why do they turn a blind eye to illegal immigrants? It is because economic prosperity depend on population numbers. The more people you have the more powerfull your economy will get. This is in 2 fold. One you have lot of people in employement who pay tax to the goverment and two you stimulate demand. When people work, earn, they want to buy stuff i.e food, rent a house, buy a car , fuel , colthes and all this stimulate a part of the economy.

So migration for some western countries is not a bad thing. Look at china 1 billion people is what is making the grow evry year and in 20 years they will be in a different place all together!

Dear Leila2007, you are right why America so many refugees every year. No doubt about it. Their priorities today is different.

"It depends with reason for migration and why people migrate. For somalis they are fleeing violence which is understandable which ever country they end up in. For them it is a matter of survival and we address why we are still fighting and subjecting more people to live as refugees either in Mogadishu (today) or in the west."

Why do we in Somalia are still creating more refugees that no one wants them in the West because the west are picking and choosing refugees. They need skilled people which is a brain drain from poorer countries and viewed Somalis now as below South Americans. Most Somalis want to come to the West. Where will that leave Somalia? Can we reverse the sitaution in Somalia? My enquiry was how can we Somalis be happy in their own country instead of dreaming migrating to the West?

Migration is not something that will stop and it is a global issue. Its not just in Somalia but most under developed contries. This will stop when every country has developed to almost the same point and there is no need to migrate as the opportunities/ living standard is the same everywhere. This will not happen soon but it will.

Also there are alot of people from the west who migrate to other contries including Africa. Somalis who have been here for some time are relocating back to open businesses in somalia and other parts of East Africa. British people are relocating every year to more hotter countries for retirement, business, expertriates. I remember reading something about an English CEO in Dubai who is 71 years for a company. In the UK you cant be a CEO of public company with that age but because he has alot of experience and a good tract record he got a job in Dubai. Now this is just 1 case I am sure alot of this is happening.

As for brain drain well you cant stop that from happening. It is good to let people move to better opportunities if the jobs are not there in their own coutries. End of the day they will come back better qualified and help their own contries in a better way in the future.
