from one extreme to another.
Niqaab is an ancient arab and persian tradition that is said to have started out among the rich aristocratic women..in other words it predates Islam.

Re: WHY I SHED BIKINI FOR NIQAB!!!!
Zack ..maxaad iicaayeeysa?
Walaal waa run Islam didnt invent the niqaab ..it existed from before and even during the Byzantine era. Somali women i believe should stick to foodadahooda and their beautiful dhiracs instead of cabaayadahan iyo jalabiibtan. Dumarku Ilaahay muu uabuurin inay tin iyo cidib maca wajigooda iswada duudubaan.Sucuudiga eeg..meeshu fusuq iyo khanisnimo ayaa kubatay.
Zuleikha i would choose niqaab ofcourse...but obviously not because i like it..but how dare you ask me that question!

Walaal..Do you believe Islam invented the niqaab? i.e the face veil? theres historical evidence that other women from different cultures..greek, byzantine and persian wore it. Same with the hijaab we know the jews and christian women wore it..they are even encouraged to wear it in their bibles. The difference is ..the Qur'an doesnt talk about the Niqaab. The word just doesnt appear in the Qur'an.
What i have said isnt any different to what the Islamic Fiqh Scholar Souad Saleh said ..for those of you who don't know her she's the Head of Al-Azhar University's Islamic and Arabic Sudies Department, Women's Branch
There is no Quranic text that promotes niqab, Saleh says. The injunctions urging Muslim women to don the hijab are clearly stated in Surat Al-Nur and Surat Al-Ahzab. "The Quran clearly states that a Muslim woman should wear the hijab, even though the face should not be veiled." Saleh recounts how she has had to force her munaqabat students at Al-Azhar University to remove their facial veils when they sit an exam. "How else can I ascertain the identity of the young woman? How do I know if another individual is sitting in her place. The niqab, in my view, is not acceptable."
Saleh believes that niqab is foreign attire imported into Egypt by people returning from oil-rich Gulf Arab countries. "Egyptians sought employment opportunities in the Gulf in the 1970s and 1980s and they returned with novel ideas. They came back with ideas that were neither traditional Egyptian nor Islamic. They were not part of a universal Islamic tradition." Saleh expresses concern about the new trend of preachers spreading their own brand of Islam. She strongly believes that a Muslim woman should wear the customary hijab. But she insists that Islam never stipulated how it should be worn. "There are cultural variations and different designs. But Muslim women are free to chose the style of dress, colours and textiles of their attire.

Re: WHY I SHED BIKINI FOR NIQAB!!!!
This is the verse proniqaab people use to support their belief (taken from different websites)
...And when ye ask (the Prophet's wives) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs.
Qur'an 33:53
The wives of the Prophet were indeed required to wear the niqab by this Qur'anic verse. This is because the special status they had meant they had to be kept clear from all gossip and slander. Scholars say that if the wives of the Prophet, as the best of feminine examples, were required to wear niqab, then the ruling falls on all women.
However, earlier on in the same chapter, the Qur'an also very clearly states that the Prophet's wives were not similar to other women.
Some scholars have also gone on record as saying Niqaab impedes da'wah efforts and causes harrassment for the sisters.
O Wives of the Prophet! You are not like any of the other women.
33:32
Most scholars are in agreement that the verse about the screen, or concealing of the face, is only obligatory on the wives of the Prophet. They say the verses are a clear indication that the wives of the Prophet are much more restricted in their movement due to their political position, and that their code of conduct does not constitute a code of conduct for women in general.
'Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and to be mindful of their chastity: this will be most conducive to their purity - (and,) verily, God is aware of all that they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and to be mindful of their chastity, and not to display their charms (in public) beyond what may (decently) be apparent thereof; hence let them draw their head-coverings over their bosoms.(24:30-31)'
we may infer from Allah's words, ''Tell the believing men that they should lower their gazes'', that the faces of the women of the Prophet's time were not veiled. Had the entire body including the face been covered, it would have made no sense to command them to lower their gaze, since there would have been nothing to be seen
What did Aisha bint Talha RA the wife of one of the Prophet's PBUH Companions RA tell her husband when he asked her to wear the Niqaab?
Since the Almighty hath put on me the stamp of beauty, it is my wish that the public should view the beauty and thereby recognized His grace unto them. On no account, therefore, will I veil myself
I like her attitude
Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas: Al-Fadl (his brother) was riding behind Allah's Apostle and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came and Al-Fadl started looking at her (because she was beautiful) and she started looking at him. The Prophet turned Al-Fadls face to the other side.
If she was covering her face then Ibn Abbas would know that she is beautiful! Also Prophet pbuh did not order the girl to cover her face

maasha'allahTo enjoin good--any good--and to forbid evil--any evil. To speak righteousness and to speak up against all ills. To fight for our right to wear Niqab or Hijab and to please our Creator whichever way we chose.
