Monthly, at least $1 million revenue is collected from the port alone never. However, only 10% is put back in to the community whilst the rest is pocketed.

The only ones that are taxed in Kismaayo are the docked ships and the planes at the airport. The businesses do not pay any tax and since there is no administration apart from the clan-based one, it is difficult to collect taxes outside Kismaayo.

They have indheergarads but do not follow them otherwise they wouldn't have tried to block the initiative of the MPS.

During the JVA, at least there were little to no mutiny/roadblocks, soldiers were paid. Kismaayo university was built, destroyed roads were fixed, government properties were refurbished, the hopital was completely run by Somalis and received their funding from the taxes, disputes between clans were resolved swiftly, blood money was always paid by Barre. And all this on port revenue. When there was a conflict between Reer Siyaad and Reer Xasan, Barre reconciled them and paid their blood money. Similiary for the Garre-Cali Dheere war.

Anyway they should use that money to pave the roads in Gedo and Abudwaaq. Wallahi fock those that ran Kismaayo and I hope they get kicked out. Not a penny from that money is invested in Gedo.

A large hospital was going to be built in Ceelwaaq after the peace pact was finalized but then the ICU disrupted the peace.

But Gedo would benefit more if a joint administration is created between the three regions (regional state). Gedo has now an administration, what is left is joining it with the other regions.

Saaxib what will prevent these so called politicians from continuing to pocket the money? My cousin who is not even involved in this Kismaayo leadership thing used to make crazy pocket money from it. This needs to stop and the money should go to some things like projects to help the orphans, to fund school projects, hospitals, business centers etc. in all the region including all of jubboyinka and Gedo.

The thing is,at the moment the only revenue comes only from the port and the airport. Majority is pocketed and the rest is used for minor things.

Why do you there were hundreds of isbaaros a couple of months back? The soldiers were not paid and once they setup roadblocks and close the port, the only revenue is turned into no revenue.

There are 800 soldiers for the port alone, how foolish would it be not to pay their salaray and expect to receive money.

There are little to no NGOs in Kismaayo and this is due the insecurity. When Axmed Warsame and co came to Kismaayo to build a regional state, it was to remove the power from these pocketing elders who are only contend with port money.

Because once a fair administration is built, there will be accountability and once there is accountability, no shaqsi will try continue this thievery.
