Re: Your Somali is showing...
Lol, that just means there's a higher population in Hargeisa which is why there are so many qaad sellers to cater to the public.
Re: Your Somali is showing...
I remember a time when Khaat was frowned upon in southern Somalia & Khaat sellers were criminals hunted down by the government, their properties auctioned off including their homes & were essentially scum of the earth. This was probably right before the infestation from the North and with it came the cursed plant.

Kolombo, so in essence we are the ones who have introduced this 'cursed plant' to the masses of the South?
You still believe Reer Waqooyi use it more than others?

Re: Your Somali is showing...
qaad knows no qabil. I am isaaq and I DONT CHEW
Re: Your Somali is showing...
That means Hargeisa is 2800% bigger than Bosaso which is pure bullshit.
Imagine half a mile of screaming qaad sellers, each insulting the other or dropping prices, i should have taped it.
Only in Somaliland

Re: Your Somali is showing...
"Reer Waqooyi chew more then other somalis" is just a myth! I discovered that when I went back home last year! You should see how ruff things are the moment they spot the vehicals carryin qaat, chaos and mayhem! shots being fired! people running around like headless chicken. I tried it few times(In somalia) and that shidh is poision! markad seexatid buu mirqaanka la shegayo kugu so bixi! hawada baa gali wacadalle.
Re: Your Somali is showing...
Qaad carrying cars in Hargeisa even have rotating emergency lights and loudspeakers
The Qaad has to be fresh, everybody has to know

I'm not sure if any of my mannerisms can be classified as stereotypically Somali - nope, nothing comes to mind.

Cali,
I know it came from the North & Somali Galbeed. All one has to do is research historical archives in the South and the only time Khaat became heavily consumed is around the late 1980s and specially in 1989 when the government lifted the ban & it became a free-for-all event. Over the years, it spread througout the country & today, even in places like Marka & Baraawe, khaat consumption is very high. Rewind 20 years ago and nobody even knew what khaat was in those places.

Re: Your Somali is showing...
The Reer Waqooyi were mostly nomads in those times, and consuming qaad was a common practise. Those areas you've mentioned were productive Southern towns and cities in that era and never had the need or oppertunity to consume the drug under close watch.
However, im pretty sure the remaining nomads of the South still continued the practise.
Qaad makes one lazy and not very productive, exact the opposite of what is now happening in the Northern region, proving generalisation claims otherwise.
