Surrender,
Why did have the impression that you live in the USA? I was wrong all along
It is a fact that people in America are more fortunate than other Somalis in Europe etc...when it comes to apportunty..With us it is like a peace of cake offered to you to eat...Simply because if someone is really serious enough he/she can go to school all they want, can go to work all they want, can do partime/full-time....and jobs are available...The choice is theirs..They can be on welfare for the rest of their lives or they can be heart surgeons..No one is stopping them...
In other words, "The American Dream" is always available..

Why did I always think Tech was cheap? Isn't it a state school?King-of-Awdal wrote:It seems some of you have it very easy in Europe. My tuition per year is 15,500 and that doesnt include and those must be paid by all students at the Uni.

You guys pay next to nothing for school. Some of the schools I'm looking at are ranging around 45,000 a year, which is around 28,000 dollars in GBP.
Even with aid, my tuition will never be as light as 6,000 or 7,000. You Brits are the lucky ones with dirt cheap tuitions.

blithe,
Which schools are you looking at?

Alhamdulilah I had my tuition fees all paid for in addition to, I also received a grant- £3000 spread over my 3yrs of study ( It is not much but it is free)... Until now I regret taking out student loans in my first 2 years of studies! Stick to interest-free overdrafts with student accounts

Re: Grants, Fellowships, Scholarships, Work-study, etc.
if you dont have health insurance, you're screwed
thats why healthcare is number one issue this year
but the problem is when you try to live beyond your means... people need to be sensible and go with what works rather than flashy stuff

America will recover faster because the government doesn't have as much invested in social entitlement programs as the Europeansjohndoel wrote:kambuli wrote:Surrender,

Re: Grants, Fellowships, Scholarships, Work-study, etc.
JOHN, Europe's high payroll taxes, along with restrictions on when and how companies can lay off workers, make employers slower to rehire when a recession ends.
That's one reason why economists expect the U.S. to stabilize faster than Europe. The euro-zone economy will keep shrinking next year, whereas the U.S. should be growing by then.
