MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—Fierce fighting between al Shabaab and Hizbul Islam militants has erupted in the port town of Kismayo, where the two sides have been preparing for fighting to control the city for the last three days, witnesses and officials say.




Officials from Hizbul Islam confirmed that the fighting has started in the town. There are no further details about the fighting.




Residents say the sound of heavy gun fire could be heard in the town. More civilians started fleeing from Kismayo early on Wednesady.




Al-shabaab has declared war on Hizbul Islam on Wednesday and Hizbul Islam replied that they will defend any fighting from the Shabaab.




On the other hand there is tension in Afmadow town in the region, where al Shabaab has reportedly deployed more fighters near the town to fight with fighters loyal to Hizbul Islam based in the town.




There is power struggle between the two groups.




Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys leads Hizbul Islam which is among the Islamist rebels fighting to topple the Transitional Federal Government.




Sheik Aweys called for al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden to stop meddling in Somalia affairs in March this year, while al Shabaab welcomed warmly his speech encouraging to the Insurgents to topple President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed.




This shows the difference between the two rebel groups.




The two groups have been fighting against the fragile government led by President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed together since May 2009.




But their dispute started when al Shabaab formed an administration in Kismayo unilaterally.

I don`t really know bro, they are probably rooting for the winning side on the side line like allways on serious note some Marexaan guy told me once that the LLks living aboard(mostly in north america) sent 20k too kismayo when barre was fighting morgan? waa laga yaaba inay sheeko tahay laakin I have heard it before as well.

Actually what I heard from elders about Lelkasse is that they always stayed neutral in inter MJ/MR beefs, even when they got pressured to join either side. While I was a 110% Barre supporter I have to admit that the only group that came in and laid down the law in Kismaayo was Shabab, even though I hate them with a passion. Dadka xaqooda waala siiya, however if a stronger force comes along then hey I'm with them too, lol.

Salaan sare Inadeer. I agree with You, however Soomalida just like Jaale Siyaad need someone with a firm hand to show them the way. Now I know the Kacaan cannot in any way be compared to this rouge, insane outfit but I do think in a wierd kind of way they are good kind of shock therapy to get skinnies in Somalia used to living under rules no matter How bad and ridiculous they are. Somalia got used to foodo iyo is maqal la'aan so a little ass whopping might be what they need so that later on, they'll think twice about burcadnimo.

forget about my clan - on group (almost) entirely consists of my sub-sub-clan and the other has as many, if not more, from my sub-sub-clan than your entire clan. so, from tribe prospective, logical it'd be stupid of me to support either of em, not to mention that neither of em are even fighting for my qabil.
