Landlocked is a overused term on this site. Somalia only Has 4 major ports and in the South, those ports are in the midst of agricultural hubs which makes it a source of constant war. It is the ports that are valuable, for revenue purposes. Just living near any beach isn't a privilege really and its not a source of contention for Somalis. With Somalis coastline, any clan can come and stake out a area near the beach but for what?

Grandpa, I see

Murax, besides those ports there are many other smaller ports such as saylac, marka, barawe, hobyo etc. This means that as long as a clan has degaans on the coast with the right investment they could easily have a smaller port that isn't deep sea.

Mareexaans, that's why Kismaayo is so important to them, it's a matter of life and death. Without that city they will be landlocked for miles and miles

that wouldn't work in tiny waqooyie land

imagine samaroon , sacad muuse, garhajis building small ports next to Berbera

not to mention how exspensive building a port no matter size really is.

it's big difference between port and just a coastline... some clans even have a long coastline and not a single port.

The only true ones who are landlocked I get to think about is reer Hiiraan

During the british somaliland era they had three ports they used to use; saylac, bulloxaar and berbera and they are all close to each other

Cumar Labasuul, the only ports in somaliland are Berbera - big port, Zaylac ( tiny port ) , Maydh ( tiny port ) - which is about to be enlarged and rebuilt.

dabaalsenis , buloxaar , sabawanaag , lughaya with exception of Saylac are really really tiny tuulos on coast with no trading port .
back then Berbera was no deepwater port either.... so the competition was fair .

Today Djibouti port is too close in competition to Berbera and vice verca...

I think reer Bulaxaar should move down to Hargeisa
