Jan. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Sudanese authorities arrested Islamist leader Hassan al-Turabi and at least six other members of his party yesterday, after the opposition said it was planning street protests similar to those in Tunisia.
“They arrested him at midnight,” Wesal al-Mahdi, al- Turabi’s wife, said by phone today from Khartoum, the Sudanese capital. “They surrounded the whole street with weapons and security.”
