As much as I hate these dictatorial Arab governments, I give them kudos for not unleashing their armies onto the people. Whether by choice or not; we have now seen in three different instances where Arabs could have had a Tiananmen square but their armies exercised restraint and choose life over a blood bath. When our rulers were faced with possible loss of power they choose to keep their power at all cost even over people’s lives! Is it tribalism which caused our rulers and army to discard the sacredness of human life? Even after the collapse of our government we Somalis continue to spill blood like its nothing. Are we Somalis a different breed?

Somalis are horrible and do not respect the right for life, liberty, and property. And this goes from the former government, the rebel outfits, EVERYONE.

The former government bombed its own people, the army split up across clan lines, they used those weapons thereafter in the civil war and against the civilians.



The Arabs are by and large cowards but it is good they finally woke the hell up. You won't see this in the Khaleej though... those Arabs are the biggest pussies of them all.

First of all Saddam Hussein" gased " the kurds bombed the shia and drain their swamps until he made it a barren land .
Cali Cabdalla Salix bombed the shit out the houthis as well as those who disagree with him in Abyan .
The death toll in Masr is currently @a 100 and mounting ,in 1977 when the people rebelled in Egypt 800 + people were killed in the clashes between police and demonstrators ..etc..ect
Secondly eventhough we are also Somalis , there is no "blood bath " in our neck of the woods .

FAH, Gulf arabs have it good. Their leaders actually look after their citizens and therefore they have no desire to revolt.

As for Somalis, most simply do not have the ability to make sacrifices for the greater good of their nation. Most somalis are about me, myself (their family) and I (their tribe).

Only reason why these regimes don't just massacre the people are because their survival depends 100% of their foreign backers and they wouldn't accept it and would withdraw their support. Their own people hate them so much and also army might mutiny if given these orders. Even now there are a lot of pictures where soldiers and military officers are joining the protesters and ripping Mubarak's pictures. Aljazeera reported that army was ordered to use live ammunition, but still they are just there chilling and laughing with people. In Tunisia it was also soldiers that refused to obey orders and then bin Ali had to flee.

IF these protests were Islamic, there would be totally different scenario and Hama-style massacre (Syria 1982 where tens of thousands Muslim Brotherhood supporters were killed) and the west would back it 100%. These revolts have good chances to work, because slogans are democracy and freedom and this severely limits regime's options. This is basically a revolt by whole nation, people from all walks of life, instead of minority of certain ideology that would be much easier to resist.

Difference with Somalia was that here people rebel for the benefit of the country, while in Somalia people rebelled for the benefit of their sub-clan. Extreme tribalism took Somalia to where it's today.

Egypt has a long history when compared with Somalia and with that they have a sense of nationalism instilled in them thus why they've been so patient all these years. They value life and with pride they are aware of what
exactly being an Egyptian is and what is at stake. Somalia is just not and was never at that level.

Sahangalbeed, I am not a history student as you have pointed out. I have been watching TV over the past few days and the response of the armies in Tunisia and Egypt has caused me to ask this question. We cannot take away from their humanity in this instance by citing examples which point to the contrary. Their restraint is undeniable and perhaps we can look at the examples you cited and explain what lead them down the path to bloodshed? Is it possible that the Iraqi government/army acted like animals because they have sectarian differences and hatred akin to tribalism? Kurds vs shia vs sunni? Gassing and bombing civilians cannot be carried out by armies unless the civilian are dehumanized. There has to be an apparatus which allows an army to think that these people don’t deserve to live. If your take on my post is that we suffer from an inferiority complex then you have demonstrated that you’re blind to the truth. It is undeniable that the civil war in Somalia was a bloodbath. The numbers of casualties that you have cited are not even in the same order of magnitude. Come on bro open your eyes

Salahuddiin, you may be right in what you have said. I was pointing out the obvious fact as you have pointed out that the armies were ordered to open fire on the masses but they didn’t. And for that these Armies deserves kudos.
