I remember hearing a linguistic theory the other day,i cant remember its name, stating how the original form of any language usually remains in its purest form among its agricultural communities while the nomads are known for picking up new words, dialects from the people and nations they interact with. and there was also this banadiri looking linguistic professor at an Italian university on a BBC show while ago who made a compelling case for the etymology of certain somali words and how it remains in its purest forms in places like afgoye.
despite the poetic tradition and oratory prestige of the maxaa-tidhi dialect could it be the altered and inferior version of the true af-somali(af-may) after all?
discuss...
could af-may be the true af-somali?

Re: could af-may be the true af-somali?
If we can't even say where Somalis originated (roots/) from how can we know the true-af somali? what was before af-may?
I can buy its the oldest known language in Soomalia..maybe.

I beg to differ, agricultural communities tend to quickly bastardize a language into local dialects. On the other hand nomads have to travel large distances and thus have to maintain a language in its pure form in order to communicate with distant clans.
