The Famine as tool of war
There is a disgusting thing going on right now and that is the use of the drought and famine in order to essentially starve the unwilling people of Somalia into submission.
The drought has been going on for almost 2 years now, and longer if you don't include the brief relief a few years ago this drought has been going on strong since about 2005, so cries of an emergency and a need for urgent action are incredibly hypocritical. Where was this urgency in 2009 and 2010? Calls for western assistance are empty, western aid never arrives where it is needed, it is stolen and embezzled and even then, insufficient even if it did make it to where it is needed.
The ONLY thing that can help the suffering people of Somalia is peace. Only peace.
The big-headed men of Somalia, their heads so swollen with pride that they are deaf to compromise, they are to blame and noone else.
AWSJ, al-Shabaab, Ethiopia, Kenya, TFG: End the damn war.

Re: The Famine as tool of war
al-Shabaab is as guilty as anyone, they have the strongest hand to play. If they called for a peace conference they could end the war in a week.
They are fixated on a military victory to end the conflict but after 2 years they are barely any closer to that goal than they were before.
Only a political settlement can end the war in a decisive way, but Shabaab has no interest in even talking to anyone else.

The famine wouldn't be nearly as bad if it wasn't for the war.
This war needs to end, there's nothing even left to fight for, enough is enough!!

Was referring to the West ignoring the drought for years, and now suddenly acting concerned not that part.Enlightened~Sista wrote:grandpakhalif wrote:Many of us said this before but then others like voltage called us 'primitive, backward'.

Al Shabab needs to stop opposing the government militarily, they can oppose them in other ways that doesn't involve shedding the blood of their people. They can form a political party, let's see who wins this way instead of through the barrel of a gun that has been going off for God knows how many years. Forcing yourself on people will only result in people despising you even further.

The Only thing that doesnt make sense is why alshabab is refusing aid agencies to help those starving poor people? I mean if you cant feed them let the other guys feed it.

Godane and co are wacko's. They think the gaalo coming in will be spies and what not. Which maybe very well true, but that doesn't mean they should deny food to those who need it, especially when they cannot provide itAddoow wrote:The Only thing that doesnt make sense is why alshabab is refusing aid agencies to help those starving poor people? Re: The Famine as tool of war
James Dahl, are you leaving out USA and EU for a reason? They are participant in the conflict by not de-listing Al-Shabaab from the terrorist list, and at the same time bringing more army of Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia while not allowing Somali leaders to make concessions. The solution is somewhere in the middle but leaving the big boys out of the equation is not genuine. West should allow Somalia to live in peace. It is that simple.James Dahl wrote:There is a disgusting thing going on right now and that is the use of the drought and famine in order to essentially starve the unwilling people of Somalia into submission.

It is mind boggling to see the west talking to the Taliban, and working with known AlQaeda affiliates in Libya, but no negiation between TFG and Al-Shabaab nor no negotition between Al-Shabaab and the west?
The war in Somalia is a genocide imposed on the people of Somalia. According to the previous TFG PM Mohamed A'laahi Farmaajo "The international Community is not ready for Somalia to have a viable government." Every one knows Somalia's problems start at the footsteps of Washington and Brussels, and will end there.

Re: The Famine as tool of war
There are backers sure, but Ethiopia and Kenya and Uganda are the executors. The west cannot invade Somalia directly, and have little direct pressure to put to bear. If Uganda decided to withdraw, there is little that could be done to stop Museveni, and if there was a political settlement where AMISOM's mandate was terminated, they would have to leave, regardless of what Musaveni would like. All actions taken by the west have depended on the political cover of the AU and the TFG. The TFG has directly invited all the invading armies, and they depend on that mandate to operate.
