Your Maternal Aunts, Do You Call Them Hooyo?

I call every old somali woman hooyo. I tried to change that because I feel it is not fair to my mother.


Now I try to say eedo, but somali woman do not like eeddo. They want you to call them habaryar. I call them walaalo, abaayo sister.

But what do you call a man in his 50's? when I was younger it was normal to call adeer anyone with children. My mother was eedo too all younger or single women when she was 25 or even younger because she had children.

Now things are quite confusing. Aniga I call habaryar gabadhaha teenageka oo dhan. some of them ma dhali karo. Laakiin I feel a little bit bad to say walalo.

Maternal is Habaryar...and if you are so close to your Habaryar like you are to S.... you should call maamo/hooyo
