Somalia’s president Sharif Shiekh Ahmed appointed new administration for the strategic central region of Somalia,Hiiraan.

After days of consultations with section of MPs and intellectuals from the region, Somali government announced the new administration at a ceremony held in Mogadishu.

The new appointed governer of Hiiraan is Abdifatah Hassan Afrah who was the leader of local administration known as Dohada Shabelle and controls most of Beledweyne with the assistance of Ethiopian troops.

Talking to Hiiraan Online, the new governor hailed president Sharif’s move to appoint him promising to carry out his duties competently.

Four other governor deputies were also appointed, while the city mayor post was given to Osman Barre Mohamed.

The ceremony was attended by government ministers,members of parliament,intellectuals and traditionals leaders of Hiiraan.

Since Hiiraan was captured from Alshabab late 31 December 2011 , Somalia’s government was promising to form an administration for the region to avoid power vacuum.

Residents in Beledweyne say Normal life is returning in the city after years of Alshabab control but security situation is still precarious.

How is it foreign created maamul when Dooxada was created in Hiiran last year and their muscle were stationed in Kalabeyr fighting AlShabaab for a year?

There is Ahlu digri and there's Dooxada Shabelle fighting for the control of the region and Dooxada won it seems.

Its not a state, its a local government to run things till they get a sate, all the liberated areas will get one

Trust me Hiraan's governor is the first of many more governors to come via the TFG and there is little demand if anything a toothless clan X can make unless they wanna risk facing the American drones and the African Union artillery.

I think the constitution will have to be changed somehow from its stance of what constitutes a federal state because the two states or more are a bit tricky. What the hell will the government do about the Hiiraan region? These guys want their own state and nothing else. Theres also the question of the Galmudug...even it only claims half of Mudug and half of Galgaduud, not two full states.

Sh Shariif stabbed Galmudug in the back. The Galmudug president announced this week that he and the president of Gal hiiraan came to an agreement to merge Galmudug and Gal hiiraan into one state and out of no where Shariif announces Hiiraan state, which is the rival of Gal Hiiraan. The coming weeks is gonna be interesting

I dont think Sh Shariif really had any say in the matter. The guy they named Hiiraan governor is the head of Dooxada Shabeelle. Im pretty sure he told Shariif its my way or the highway. What the hell has Galmudug got to do with Hiiraan
