Shirib you're giving the USC too much power. Do you think all the other fractions that were fighting to get some power would just lay down their arms had the USC acted quickly and filled the gap? I think not sxb. What would be of SNM? I doubt matter would just settle there.Shirib wrote:If USC had a clear path the civil war would of ended. The break of USC into Ali Mahdi vs. Aideed is what destroyed Somalia. If USC would taken over and announced a unilateral government, majority of Somali's would have been accepting. But they ended up breaking up and massacring each other.eliteSomali wrote:It ain't like the USC could just decide what happened next. You had 115 different fractions of little qabiil driven motherfockers that would not work together. A leader is replaced but why the fock did the whole nation have to go with the leader? Their thirst for power was so keen that it was ultimately what led to their disagreements.Shirib wrote:USC were doqomiin, they had no damn plan other than lets get rid of Siyaad, imbecils couldn't even decide who their damn leader was

yes its all to do with the USC, both the manifesto group for being closet siyadist loyalists and for caydiid being unresonable and losing his mind when faced with the manifesto wings lunacy.
We already had a roadmap in 1989 between the SNM/USC/SPM after the defeat of the faqash regime there was going to be a 5 year Transitional government with power shared by the three, follwed by elections and a return to most of the constituion of the 60's but with federalism.
ali mahdi then claimed presidency, war erupted between the USC, siyads army attempting a comeback from kenya, so we finally had enough and told somalia to go to hell.
Re: how ethiopia was saved from civil war and failure?
Ethiopian government collapse was politically intervened by the west, and the Ethiopians took the deal and lived with it. For the Ethiopians, statehood and ethnic loyalties are two different things, while every thing revolves around on clan for Somalis. The whole statehood idea is missing from the Somali thinking.
Just to go further a little bit, General Caydiid should never have opposed Ali Mahdi's presidency after the formation of transitional government in Djibouti in 1991. That is where the problem started. Since Ali Mahdi was chosen as president, General Caydiid and his supporters should have swallowed their pride and accepted the presidency of Ali Mahdi Mohamed. Truth is, from that day to this day, Somalis were opposing every government that is formed for Somalia. The idea that if I don't see my clannish interest, I want that governmeng destroyed is the motto for Somalis.
The 'powers that be' had also supported the status quo in Somalia. People should not overlook that, but ultimate responsibility rests on the Somalis. The day we care about our suffering population, that is the day we will get out of the whole we are in.
