I can testify to this when a fire broke out in banadiri refugee camp in kenya and I was around 7 I got lost and ended up somewhere near the beach near mombasa. This somali family saw me ,they took me in , took care of me and helped me find my family. Thats one of the reasons why I wouldnt trade being somali for any other ethnicity.

Daf/mody, We always focus on our negative side but walahi we have one of the greatest cultures in the world Sometimes I almost miss my flight helping out Somali elders, women with children who don't speak English - I am sure they'd do the same for me It is like la shukra cala wajib

Instead of constant bickering and hating each other in public, why can't we showcase our positive side

You tell me? A brother getting married has to pay $20 - $50 to all these people present in the meher. I am not stingy but what will $20 do for me? But when when you spend $20 for 500 people that is a lot of money for someone who needs it.

Where did this ugly tradition originate from.

Sooriyo is one thing that is part of Somali culture I will outlaw if I could.

sadly we can't win this argument, at least in Somalia..lol as soon as you try to convince them being Muslim doesn't mean calling yourself abu mansuur they will say you have been with gaalo too long.

I would promote the ReSomalization of Somalia by teaching the traditional dances, customs and songs of the Old Days. Back to the Guntiinos, Afros, Daantofests, Siyaaros, Dikri,etc.
