Bomb Blast outside Masjid in Nairobi
3 dead, 15 wounded in Nairobi blast
NAIROBI, Kenya — A grenade thrown at worshippers leaving a mosque in a Somali neighborhood in the Kenyan capital killed three people and wounded 15 on Friday evening, the city's police chief said. The explosion was the second in the same Nairobi neighborhood in three days.
Kenyan media reported that a Muslim member of parliament was among the wounded, but police Chief Moses Ombati did not confirm that.
Kenyan troops moved into Somalia in late 2011, prompting al-Shabab militants in Somalia to vow revenge attacks inside Kenya. And over the past year, Kenya has seen a series of small-scale explosions, many from grenades and other small improvised explosive devices. Al-Shabab sympathizers are suspected in many of the attacks, although authorities have not definitively linked all the attacks to the Islamist group or its sympathizers.
Friday's targeting of a mosque, however, could suggest a retaliatory attack by a non-Somali Kenyan against the country's Somali community.
An angry crowd quickly gathered after the 7:30 p.m. explosion in the neighborhood, which is known as Little Mogadishu, only to disperse when police fired shots into the air. Abandoned shoes lay outside the mosque and pools of blood were visible on the mosque's steps.
A blast Wednesday near a military base in the same neighborhood wounded eight people.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan was last night injured in a grenade attack that killed two people in Eastleigh.
The MP was said to have been holding a discussion with his constituents after evening prayers at Hidaya Mosque when a man hurled a grenade at them, injuring nine people.
Mr Hassan suffered a fractured leg and was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital and the others to the Kenyatta National Hospital, six of them with serious injuries.
The blast sparked violent protests, with rowdy youth barricading roads with burning tyres.
The situation was contained by police who cordoned off the mosque. The scene of the blast was littered with blood and belongings of the victims.
The attack comes just two days after another that killed one person and injured six others.
The Tuesday night explostion went off near a scrap metal store in Nairobi’s California estate.
Eye witnesses told the Nation the explosion occurred shortly after 7pm, getting passers-by off guard. Nation reporters saw a deep hole of about 50 centimetres into the ground near the store, but the injured had already been rushed to hospital.
Police had cordoned off the area from the public as they tried to investigate the cause of the blast.
Critical condition
It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion, but witnesses claimed a gas cylinder exploded, injuring those who were walking home.
Nairobi area police boss Moses Ombati told journalists one of the injured was in a critical condition while seven others sustained minor injuries.
Mr Ombati added that the police were yet to establish the cause of the blast.
Eastleigh has been synonymous with explosions in the recent two months leading to injuries and deaths. Last month, a grenade attack on a passenger minibus claimed seven lives.

Emperior,
If the Kenyattis attack the Somalis, we are all in the same hole. Look at what happened to Yusuf Haji's town, Garissa ? Even he couldn't do anything.
