Albert Saber.
Three years in jail for offending religions , advocate of atheism and insulting the prophets . Is the sentence imposed Wednesday by a court in Cairo against Albert Saber , a computer science student aged 27 who remained in custody since September for disclosing, according to Case-in Facebook a video critical of Muslim and Christian faiths .
Albert's ordeal began on September 13, two days after the outbreak of anger over the film satire against Muhammad . The gossip spread through the neighborhood of El Marg, a bustling district northeast of Cairo lies the young atheist Christian family. Neighbors then accused him of participating in the controversial film. "Some young people who did not even know a word of Islam attacked the house, tried to burn it, they threw insults and wanted to kill us , "said in September to ELMUNDO.es Albert's mother, Kariman Meseha .
The police, instead of protecting them, stopped her son and since then has been stringing Albert extensions to the initially given custody.
The Attorney General accused Albert of insulting the monotheistic religions and apologist for "extremist ideas" and atheism through internet. Albert argues that reported on a Facebook page dedicated to "Atheists Egyptians" a video that compared and criticized Muslim and Coptic creeds , who professes to 10% of the Egyptian population.
However, the now convicted Albert, has always denied accusations of blasphemy, a crime punishable under the Egyptian Penal Code with between six months and five years in prison. His lawyers claim that the irregularities have marked the whole process , from the police investigation to the judicial work. "It was a judgment announced," said Hamdi al Asiuti , one of his lawyers, after learning a decision that has been appealed.
The defense has even bailed Albert stipulated to release from prison while waiting to hear the appeal. But the Court has ordered her back to a cell where he was vexed shortly after his arrest. "A Christian officer took him to the dungeons and exclaimed to the other detainees: "It is an atheist and offended your prophet. want to see how you chastise ' ", narrated Meseha, now a mother courage.
Local organizations and Amnesty International have repeatedly demanded the release of Albert. " He is a prisoner of conscience , detained solely for peacefully exercising their right to freedom of expression, "said Amnesty, which has called for his release" immediately and unconditionally "during the three months that lasted court martyrdom.
Albert is a victim of the crime of blasphemy ambiguous , widely used to persecute activists in the Mubarak era. And that threatens to increase after the new Constitution , the referendum will be held on Saturday, expressly prohibit insulting the prophets. "Blasphemy is a confusing concept that is always used against freedom of expression," says this daily Coptic Ishaq Ibrahim , a lawyer for the NGO Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.
