Talo's tips for success: learn from my mistakes
These 7 tips are for anyone involved in a short assignment, a class, a project, whose work will be evaluated, and the outcome of those evaluations are high stakes!
1-Impressions count. Dress neatly, consistently. Make sure to smile at everything that breathes, even the fish in the water tank!
2-If your assignment involves meetings; do not sit in the back. I developed this habit of sitting in the back of the class because it was cool, and it meant you can leave if you felt like it. Bad idea. It will project a lack of confidence.
3-Own up to every assignment, know people who are evaluating you. Remember they are looking for mishap to say "Aha this is what you did wrong!". Give half ass efforts and you will receive half ass marks.
3-Bring your lunch to work, even if you have to go to McDonalds and put the sandwich in it. You need to consistently project an Image of an organized individual, and this is one of the ways you can do it- make it a habit.
4-Make sure to speak to every individual who will evaluate you in person privately, tell them you want to do well and go over what you will be evaluated on. This will allow you to bring up any discrepancies between your expectations and those of your evaluators.
5- If you will ask a question or say a statement, make sure it’s calculated, has a purpose and you thought about it. Do not confide any of your shortcomings to your peers, or any secrets. Expect no mercy. That why they won’t be no surprises.
6-You will certainly run into people with big egos, use their Narcissistic personality trait against them. Know your competitors, they will be compared against you!
7- Pay attention to details, this is one of the ways you can seperate yourself form the pack

I don't mean to be an asshole, I'm sure this is coming from a good place and with good intentions but I'd rather learn from my our mistakes, and not that of someone else's who in all actuality is completely different than myself.

Re: Talo's tips for success: learn from my mistakes
In my first year, a friend of mine advised that I shouldn't buy a laptop, and if I ever owned one, don't bother bringing it to class. Every class I was ever in, at least 1/3 of my classmates were on their laptops browsing the net. Sure, they'd take notes, but instead of actively listening, they'd be on fb or twitter or playing candy crush or a similar game. Now I'm not saying I'm like everyone else and I wouldn't be able to concentrate but I didn't wanna risk it. What I'm trying to say is that sometimes it's best to live through someone else's experiences.Armaan wrote:I don't mean to be an asshole, I'm sure this is coming from a good place and with good intentions but I'd rather learn from my our mistakes, and not that of someone else's who in all actuality is completely different than myself.

Armaan I don't mean to be an asswhole, I'm sure you that was coming from a subjective perspective and you have a right to your opinions, but you sound like an idiot. I'm knocking you for learning from your own mistakes, cuz that is a wise thing to do but it's twice as wise to learn from other's mistakes too.
Talo good pointers.
