original dervish wrote:Khalid......obviously you've given it a lot of thought....twenty-three years is a long time to ponder separation.
Most of your analysis is logical....and you've cited various examples etc.
There is something you haven't considered, although you've come close to mentioning it.
That is the great powers have no interest whatsoever in solving this issue.
They're quite content to outsource these talks to Turkey, but will never be directly involved.
So if your hoping the "Great white fathers" will come to rescue your dream, you'll be disappointed.
PS The southerners have never negotiated anything in good faith...even among themselves.![]()

Why do you make it seem that our independence struggle would have been easy do you know how long namibias independence struggle was how long Eritreas independence struggle was do you know how long South Sudan struggle was more than 50 years. We have no major power against us the Neighborhood where Somaliland lives is very neutral and some cases for it. We know we have a case from a legal point of view this has been discussed over and over again. The great powers not having interest is not the case here the Great powers just want to contain the situation the last of my problem is the great powers such as the Europeans and the US. If you know one thing about Somalilanders we don't put our hopes in the Hands of the Europeans nor the Africans as some do . We do it our selves but we will try to be very persuasive when we are dealing with the Europeans, as for the Koonfurians they are not to bad they are just learning they just came out of a civil war.

So the status quo will continue.....for perhaps generations.....I can live with that sxb.
The southerners are not coming out of civil war......they will be besieged in Xamar with decades of low intensity conflict.
PS Eritrea marched to Addis and took their independence.

Original dervish thats your wishful thinking on your part the Hawiyes for the first time have a credible leader Hassan and his damuljadiid, the only problem causing problems for the Somalia government is Alshabaab and the Darood confederalists who want to have their cake and eat it to. Status quo is not a problem for us we have lived like this the past 23 years and we only gained

In a way I don't blame them.....c'mon man....would you really want these pathetic begging bowl southerners deciding your future?
It must be torture for the iidoor....they have everything in place to succeed....except recognition.
Khalid.....putting your hopes on the southerners achieving anything......big mistake man.
The only thing southerners can do right.......is wrong.

His next struggle will be to neutralize the Garowe clan enclave , he will receive the aid pledged to him and build capable defense forces and expand his territorial control. We have our special arrangement and will receive ours every one eats good. But the defunct Somali republic of Somalia and Somaliland will never be revived, we made sure of that

Its a big waste of time, what the so called "IC" are trying to accomplish is to confuse somalilanders and discourge their case by puting them through a prolonged endless "negotiations" about nothing, if you look at all the past agreements and points that came out of these meetings words such as " cooperation" ," integrations" and such are used to further join somaliland to somalia indirectly. Only dimwits are failing to see where such "cooperations"s and "integrations" in economincs and security is leading to..and that is...union.

Even if your a diehard secessionists....you cannot deny cooperation & economic integration between regions is mutually beneficial.
Your putting political ideology ahead of economic progress.

The way I see it Somalia should be divided into three autonomous chunks. The entire north encompassing the regions of SL and PL should be governed by Isaaq and the central from Galmudug to Shabeele governed by Hawiye. The deep south down to Juba should be governed by the Rahanweyn and Southern Dir. Somehing like a Somali league should be made with a mutual currency, trade deals and joint military exercises. After a few years, representatives from Djibouti, Kililka 5aad and NFD should be included.
Re: Somalia& S/land officials fly to Istanbul 5th round of T
Somaliland should invade Somalia and Rule it from Mugadisho, they should rename it Somalia again and share power by leaving and making hargiesa second capital. win win.
