I call it "Plastic City". The UAE and the Gulf as a whole has always given me that negative vibe. Things are too fake in that part of the world. Modern buildings don't mean anything when you have cavemen laws. Something as petty as smoking weed would land you in the slammer for many years. They also have a racism problem. I have been a victim of in your face racism in Dubai in my just 2 short visits there while I've not encountered even one in my country of birth for over 2 decades. The UAE will never be modern. Behind the gold, all the luxury villas and the skyscrapers are enslaved Indians, Arabs who speak with their noses in the air and families with 3 or 4 generational ties who will always feel like foreigners and will always be stateless. Another thing is the Somalis in Dubai. The Somalis in Dubai are very opportunistic and have no limits in their shame. Your own brothers and fathers will cheat you. That place is dangerous. People talk about Somalis in North America being corrupt. You've seen nothing until you've seen Somalis in Dubai
