Any of your relatives were slave owners?

Post by XimanJaale »

Was wondering if any of your past relatives owned any slaves? I recently found out that a past relative of mine owned a slave and I actually met the family today! Surprisingly. Well I met his grandchildren and great grandchildren today, his last daughter died last year. They are such great people but very poor. I have hooked two of his grand-son a job working in a restaurant. They told me how my great-grandfather used to look after their grand-dad and never treated him in a inhumane way, he was more like a servant than a slave i.e. he earned a living sometimes.

So did your relatives i.e. great grandparents own any Bantu's as slave?

Also surprisingly is is not only South Somalia that all the slaves were concentrated in, there were many slaves that were sold off to Northern Somalia and they were used as maids, servants etc. This is before British colonisation. Don't forget that some slaves were exported from Saylac and Berbera port and not just the ports in South Somalia.

Amiin. Does your family still have contact with their former slaves? Or are aware of their whereabouts?

It is haram to a certain extent. Having slave is frowned upon in Islam, hence why their freedom was encouraged during the prophet time.

Owning slaves is not Haraam? So keeping and using humans for work without pay is halal?

:wtf: What are you guys smoking?
In Islamic law the topic of slavery is covered at great length.[1] The Quran (the holy book) and the hadith (the sayings of Muhammad) see slavery as an exceptional condition that can be entered into under certain limited circumstances.[2] Only children of slaves or non-Muslim prisoners of war could become slaves, never a freeborn Muslim.[3] They also consider manumission of a slave to be one of many meritorious deeds available for the expiation of sins.[4] According to Sharia, slaves are considered human beings and possessed some rights on the basis of their humanity. In addition, a Muslim slave is equal to a Muslim freeman in religious issues and superior to the free non-Muslim

Hydro,

Slavery was frowned upon by the prophet, therefore it is haram to a certain extent. Besides there are different opinions on different scholars regards to slavery . Either way you should always avoid what the prophet frowned upon.

I don't support it but to say it is "100%" haraam is incorrect.

My grandfather had a Oromo worker before he died but wasn't given anything other than food, shelter and some measly dollars. Slavery without the shackles

Slavery is not frowned upon in Islam. You can have as many slaves as you like. Being a runaway slave is a very big sin and you are allowed to beat your slave if the slave doesnt do things right. You are also allowed to fuck your female slave without her permission. The slave can be your hoe. Sex with a slave is not zina. Religious law is on the side of the slave master over the poor defenceless slave who was captured, tied up and forced into a lifetime of slavery

Abdijonhson, it's not different from the athiest regime of the Soviet who forced 18 million people to work for free in a forced labour.
