Integration TV: somali canadian experiment

It's been around for a while, the name itself speaks volume of the culture of somali canadians. This clip is about Tribalism.

Integration TV by it's name seeks to solve a problem, that is the failure of great percentage of Somalis in Canada to become productive members of society.

The founders of this TV assume
1. Somali canadians have problems integrating
2.This lack of integration is due to inability to merge both cultures and take best of both worlds
3.the problems we face will thus be solved by this solution.

The list of problems that come to my mind which have plagued our communities in order of magnitude
1-Somali young male and gang banging
2-Rise of single mothers and broken homes
3-over reliance on government assistance

The first problem stems not from lack of integration but full acceptance of hip hop culture, thug life, ie full integration. It's very difficult to find Indian gang members, partly because their youth have yet to integrate into the Canadian/American largely black culture. The chinese have few gangs out in the west coast were they've been around.
All in all these young males aspire to be oppose authority, have sex, sell weed, and maybe one day become a famous rapper.

The second problem is an issue that somalis brought from back home. A large number of somali divorce cases are due to financial disputes largely surrounding who should get the remmitance back in Africa. It's an issue of authority as the Somali male who matured back home grew up thinking family decisions were largely left to his gender. the rest is history.

The last issue is related to the first one, ie the belief somalis have in the west that it's their calling to save their kin from starvation.
The somalis are simply sending too much money back to Africa. What their doing has created an unhealthy gap between families with relatives overseas and those without. This also has lead to inflation of common goods, homes, as well as property. The lack of financial regulation of this dumping of cash by families from abroad has led large percentage of Somali males back home to be idle, chew qaat, and dine new restaurant every day. This constant funneling of cash led somalis to go by whatever means of acquiring income, even if it meant lying to authority and cheating the system.





I will conclude my long essay for those with short attention span by saying this
The most succesful Immigrant community in the west are Indians, followed by chinese. They have not integrated and are not looking forwad to.

It depends how one describes integration. In my opinion, integration is about having a job/business and not becoming a liability towards the state . Unemployment, social welfare dependency and other ills drain resources and are often the underlying reasons for criminal endeavours.

P.s. I have seen the show and I am not impressed.
