Good Sci-fi Movies

Post by EvolSyawla »

I am quite please with the recent phase of sci-fi movies coming out...every few years there seems to be another wave..

From 2014, there were three good movies,
Interstellar - Finding a new home in space, and very real science all over the movie.
The Theory of Everything - Bio-pic of Stephen Hawking.
Transcendence - The age old question of what makes a person, mixed with sci-fi of AI taking over.

I love space movies mostly because they focus on physics and laws that apply only out there and problems that arise because of it...conflicts usually surround mental degradation, issues with time/space, and in some (lame) cases, aliens.

But any other movie suggestion is good too.

I saw Giver recently...I wish it was as good as the book but book-to-films are never inspiring.

Any others? :)

Gravity with George Clooney and Sandra Bullock was very good - focused on mental issues of being alone in space.

Yeah, it was good considering how different it was from the manga and Emily blunt was great in it. Another movie I would recommend is the snowpiercer.

Saw it. My favorite Korean actor was in it lol

It wasn't amazing, it really lacked depth. Good action though lol

Sci Fi is my fav genre after horror so ill list some good ones.

Pitch Black - It has imagination, it has grit, great gimmick and a pretty good script. Vin Diesel also kills it. Overall a good underrated movie.

Gattaca - Probably one of my fav sci fi movies. Great script and the cinemotagraphy is amazing. Also I like the underlying message/them behind the movie, something we can all relate to in todays world.

Matrix - Probably my fav movie of all time, it was defintely ahead of its time and set a precedent for all Sci fi movies that came after it. Pretty sure most ppl have watched this tho

Minority Report - My fav Tom Cruise movie. They utilized the CGI very well in this movie and the script was very outside the box typa shit. One of Speilbergs best work. I watched it as a kid and thought it was cool but watching it recently made me realize it's a pretty realistic for a futristic sci fi movie. Edge of tomorrow was also a p good Tom Cruise sci movie.'

Blade Runner, Panadorum, Contact, Sunshine, and eXistenZ are also all good sci movies

LH, the latest Star TREK (Not Wars, lol) was HORRIBLE. They had so much potential to focus on the different planets - including that weird scene where the natives think the Enterprise is God  lolwut? No importance or links to the rest of the movie...

Fade walaal, you're naming classics!! I need new movies. I love eachhhh of your ideas. :dj:

Pitch Black was interesting. You're right, good story, but I wish they had chosen different characters. It was all pretty cheesy.

Gattaca is one of those brilliant dystopian films: the disaster that arises from the pursuit of perfection. One of my favorite films.

Matrix. I can write an essay on everything incredible about this movie. There is actually too much to talk about. 11/10.

Sunshine, Contact and Pandorum were incredible, I can't believe you saw them, I don't know many people who did! loll (brilliant space movies, focusing on different things.)

Have you seen Event Horizon? That movie is science, sci-fi and horror (devil theme)....It actually gave me nightmares. Check it out!!

I have't seen eXistenZ so I will definitely check that out. Thanks fam.

It showed one important characteristic of Captain Kirk which is he doesn't give a fuck about the Prime Directive. It also says something about human nature, any extremely advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic or miracle which leads some people to do ridiculous things like being at awe at the "magic" so much that they end up worshiping it.

:ehh: Didn't look at it like that. Was too annoyed that the beautiful scene with an entirely new people was so short. Also the Prime Directive, yes I agree with that. It's just typical of hollywood, to introduce an entire concept (in this case, bring up an entire planet and people) - and then never bring them up again, usually I feel from being too lazy.

In fairness to the scene, it did also develop the relationship between Kirk and Spock, so maybe I was being a bit harsh.

Please tell me, are any of you guys fan of Star Trek the next generation? I don't wannabe the only Stan in the building.

Btw I love the Grimm, just the right combination of horror and comedy.
