Have you read the 4th estate? I thought it was good but Kane and Abel was even better.COOL-MAN wrote:Caadi ma'aha Jeffrey Archer.
His best book by far. I have 2 to 3 books of him in my collection. Try also paths of glory by the same author.
The best book I've read in ages.

I loved the Count of Monte Cristo & the three Musketeers, books by the bronte sisters {haven't read them all but Jane Eyre was my favourite, i was crying in the end}Sherlock holmes, Charles Dickens books. Read them in my teens and i always feel like rereading them.YummyMummy wrote:Best book = Qur'aan (I'll happily be the annoying one who reminds us). Then bukhaari. Then siirat-al-rasuul SACW. Then that of all the prophets peace be upon them. Then whatever is written by the big 4 scholars of our time. Childhood memories
I know you haven't asked, but...
Haven't read fiction in ages. Said it before but mikael lermontov's "a hero of our time" was profound when I read it at 16. Loved Anna karenina by Tolstoy. Couldn't finish War and Peace, then felt guilty about feeling guilty that I couldn't finish it when I didn't have the same guilt towards not finishing the Qur'aan that Ramadan
Dumas' original writings of the musketeers, funnier than the dramas. The count of monte cristo
Love crime/murder-mystery. "The American boy" by Andrew something (about Edgar Alan Poe) was nice, and some other mystery books by the same author. Classic literature too: all sherlock Holmes, all Agatha Christie, all Bronte, 39 steps by a Scottish guy. Great gatspy & Tender is the Night by the same author (only US classic literature I read). Some other Russian stuff I couldn't remember, dostoevsky?
almost forgot: the lady in white by wilkie Collins. Splendid. Recommend everyone to read it. Love the strong older sister in there, very Somali in her demeanour.
All of that & more i can't remember before uni years. Miss those times.
Jeffery Archer & that dude that writes lots of court room US stuff are on my list. Plus something by that other crazy US guy who woes a lot of horror stuff (he wrote mercy).

I am reading this book " The ESCAPE". by David Baldacci. Its military and spy thriller. What a book it's!!> Just read the opening page here :
“THE PRISON LOOKED more like the campus of a community college than a place where men were kept in cells for ten years or longer for offenses committed while wearing the uniform of their country. There were no guard towers, but there were two staggered twelve-foot-tall security fences, armed patrols, and enough surveillance cameras to keep an electronic eye on virtually every millimeter of the place. Situated at the northern end of Fort Leavenworth, the United States Disciplinary Barracks sat next to the Missouri River on nearly forty rolling, forested Kansas acres, a mound of brick and razor wire cradled by a green hand. It was the only maximum-security military prison for males in the country.

You HAVE to read this novel. It's about some Englishman who gets stranded in Japan in the year 1600, and then he goes on to become a Samurai. I didn't think I'd like this book since I'm not into Japanese fiction, and I'm not a fan of Anime. But I absolutely loved this book. I distributed this book amongst my Somali friends and they ALL read it and they ALL loved it. And these guys are Somali guys who barely read at all

I've heard of The count, and I recently tried to listen to the audio book, but the reader was off. I shed a tear when I read Jane EyreCherine wrote:

Yeah Jane Eyre's ending is very sad. I've started getting into Thomas Hardy recently ...read Tess of the D'Urbervilles but haven't completed it. His writing style impressed me a lot as it's not as hard going as some of the other classics e.g. Charles Dickens {whose books i also enjoy}. Thanks for the recommendation, i will definitely download Jude The Obscure now.

Nope badboy. I will read it though if I cross path with it. You see Am not avid reader of j.archers books. Just came across Kane and Abel by accident. It became an accident I didnt regret. Couldn't put it down from the 1st page till the end. Then I bought two more books of him from my local charity shop. The paths of glory and another I can't remember. I failed to remember the Author's name when I ended up at Barnes&Noble bookstore tonight in case I could have looked at the book suggested in the first post. I wasn't planning on going there and that is why. I gave some people a ride to the mall for shopping and I wanted coffee, somewhere to hang out while they shopped. Needless to say I ended up buying another book that interested me right off the bat.

Will check the suggested one after I am done with this book Inshallah. Keep the books coming. We need brains and more that are developed. Allah knows how we are lacking in that department as Somalis.
