The viciou$ cycle ($Kenya-$AMISOM)

Post by Advo »

I read this post on fb and couldn't have said better

"Al Shabaab attacks a prominent sensitive target leaving many dead. Days/weeks later while emotions are still high the African Union (AMISOM) goes to the UN requesting increase in troop numbers and budget to wipe Al Shabaab out.

The UN wanting to look like they are doing something for the poor dark souls been blown up in Africa approves the request.

AMISOM captures few ‘strategic’ towns. From the captured towns commanders will tell us Al Shabaab are a spent force.

The rainy seasons arrives. Yes, Somalia does have a rainy season. The rainy season arrives, surprisingly, just months after every major security operation to capture towns from Al Shabaab.

Operations to capture more ‘strategic’ towns grinds to a halt.

Months will pass. Al Shabaab will blockade the captured towns.

NGOs will seek fundings to feed the starving Somali souls in those blockaded towns.

Al Shabaab will, again, strike a sensitive target and we are, again, back to square one.

AMISOM will claim they don’t have enough troop numbers to wipe the group out and the UN will, again, approve deployment of few hundred troops.

And us journalists, clueless and insensitive, we will move from one massacre to the next.

And just like that the vicious cycle continues…"
