Gegiroor,
To be honest in Ethiopia the women musicians do not do as well as their male counterparts even though women dominate in Tigringya music compared to Smharic. Tigringya music is as boring as Somali. The same melody and same complications.
I have also noticed Amharingya singers can easily turn boring Tigringya music melody into an overnight hit in the Amharingya language.
I will give you an example. Here is the original melody of an Eritrean song in the Tigringya language by Fitsum Yonis aka Yohannes aka John.
The Amharic take on the same melody by Jacky Gosee. Jacky is from Wollo, Ethiopia and could be Oromo (Yejju)/Amhara.
Originally no one took notice of Fitsum's song even though he performed in Eritrea's most important occasion in its young history---1991 independence. All of sudden when Jacky re-arranged it all Eritreans and Tigrais wanted credit, royalties, claim over his creation and so forth. It reached a level where youtube blocked the video.
My favourite Jacky song is Bandiraw, which means the flag. Jacky is patriotic artist.
Here DJ Dave created amazing melody by infusing the sounds of Wollo, Gojjam and the always upbeat Gonderi with a modern touch. The masenqo, washint and the krak give it originality flavour.
Somali music needs new revolution my friend. It is declining and now days they produce amateur nudity clips.
Both Amharic and Swahili not only can go continental but global like the Korean music. Somalis have to compit with that not upload pure keyboard melody and picture to youtube. Very amateur. I like Swahili music too especially from Tanzania. I like the folklore music of the Hausa and the Fulanis. I'm not biased. I look at art as art.
Last year I named an Eritrean song song of the year and the artist personally thanked me via her official facebook page. I respect humility. Funny though she dismissed me labelling her as an Ethiopian despite being raised in Addis since the age of three. Wonderful woman.

Princess Staahil has done it again! What a soothing voice and amazing lyrics!
Thanks Gerigoor; i just got home after a long day...Family activities, playing sports, and so on...And in 30 minutes, I must have replayed this song over and over again...
I was in Ethiopia and experienced both Somali and traditional Ethiopian songs....There is just something about our music despite the fact that Somalia has been in civil for over 2 decades. The JigJiga and Hargaisa crews are, luckily, reviving that amazing sound

Indeed bro Guhad. I did the same thing and listened Princess Istaahil's song over and over again. To borrow your words, "what a soothing voice and amazing lyrics!" Indeed Jigjiga crew is reviving Somali music. Even the rappers coming from there are the best.guhad122 wrote:Princess Staahil has done it again! What a soothing voice and amazing lyrics!

Yeah, what's up my Somali sister who has adopted a new Caribbean identityiandi wrote:That music sound like reggae. What the....!
Btw, how is your Somali? I am assuming you grew up in the diaspora, most likely in Canada or in UK, and therefore your Somali is not as fluent as it should be. I know you're insisting that you're from the Caribbean, but guess what I adamant that you're a Somali.
Lastly, I must do the manly thing and apologize to you from the harsh language that I've used yesterday. Thank you for letting it pass and not turning it into a circus

If u think this is the best, i kinda feel bad for ur poor ears.
They all suck major balls. Give the real qarami and true legends a try.

Ok Baranbarossa (what a name btwbarbarossa wrote:Gegiroor,
On a serious note, I am having difficulty to really understand how anyone, who speaks Somali language fully, can't enjoy the lyrics and the voice of Princess Isaahil in the first song. But hey people have different taste and it is all comes down to what rocks your boat.
Re: The best Somali Song Ever: Lisaan Princess Istaahil 2015
It is all about taste, Tuushi. This lady has that soothing voice. With respect to Qarami, with exception of Omar Dhuule, I never liked the rest of qarami. All I care about is the voice and the lyrics. Music is secondary to me.Tuushi wrote:If u think this is the best, i kinda feel bad for ur poor ears.

In reality, if you want to check if someone can really sing and have the voice, you want to have him (or her) try without any music instrument or any other noise in the background. That is how you can hear the true voice. The Istaahil lady's voice really got to me. Just this morning alone, I listened 3 times. I am listening it right now while I am writing this comment!

Ok how about if you share the ones that excite you and you enjoy listening to?
