For a long time, I have had a collection on these guys where I was saving anything I randomly came across.

Their name is spelled in so many way different with the vowels----

Garira/Gerira
Garire/Gerire
Gariira/Geriira
Gariire/Geriire

They are the single most fascinating group, in my humble opinio, when it comes to the complete mystery of the process of Somali identity formation.

They are nominally considered under "Somali Region" bordering the Ittu Oromo and beginning of the Sheikh Hussan highlands to Iimay/Shabelle plains.

In some claims they are brought under the appanage of "Dir", but this is not universally accepted and is even less agreed upon than say "Jaarso" and "Akiisho" in the Hararge area.

In my understanding they are sort of between RENDILLE and AKIISHO/JAARSO in the grediant of Somali identity acknowledgement.

A part of Gariire people have strengthened Somali identity belonging, among them which are people like "Waraabeeye" in the Mandera area.

Gariire people are important, in my opinion, for being a "transitional link" between Somali identity formation from pan or pro-Lowland East Cushitic (which I really should be called "Oromoid" or pan-Abbo like Swedes, Dutch and Germans are "Germanic.")

I am telling you these guys might explain a lot. Strange linkages have consistently showed up in my casual observation/collection of information on them connected to Somali identity from Booraama to Burco to Boosaaso to Beled-Weyne to Bu'aale.

Someone should do genetic testing on them just to have that in the research material available on constructing their position.
