The Haralla Afar in Swedish research; "We are brothers of Marehan, Geri, and Harti Darod"

Post by Gubbet »

Swedish field report to Afar Region and the Hawas river. This is the geneology provided by the Haralla Afar.

The shocked Swede doesn't know what to make of it. He is like "but these guys are famous Somali groups and you are here...and Afar?"

The Haralla Afar claim to be from the Harla/Haralla of Harar.

There is such an open unsolved puzzle 🧩 in the Horn and it's ethnic history.

So Haralla Afar descend from Koombe Kuumade Kablalax? According to this geneological map it shows that Marehan and Harti are all in the same bracket. I thought Marehan was older than Kablalax? Very confusing.

War nimanka wax bay isku dardareen, Koombe is not part of Kuumade to begin with, they are two separate branches. And they don't even mention Ogaadeen ironically at all.

They literally mention ONLY the groups that existed during Ahmed Gurey going by who was recorded in the Futuh (Marehan, Geri, and Harti).

The importance of this whole thing is that HARALLA GROUP of AFAR PEOPLE right now on the HAWASH RIVER have a geneology that claims to be DAROD and identify the brothers of their ethnic group as MAREHAN, GERI, AND HARTI.

The details are secondary as the very fact they are part of another ethnic group while the relatives they claim are Somalis shows some big confusion/misunderstanding/separation/puzzle took place leading to the situation today.

I am willing to bet "Kabiir" on the geneology probably is linked to "Habar."
