I came across this Facebook post from the last couple days with a lot of responders.

It reminded me of this topic.

I have mentioned the discovery that Somalis rarely truly understand their country or lands so I am not surprised by the post's honest introspection.

He asks "what is so special about that land?" With that land being a rectangle drawn over Western Mudug and Galgaduud.

He calls it the "Middle East" of Somali territory presumably evoking "Israel vs. Palestine Conflict."

Image

The writer observes the locations within the rectangle and names them perfectly enough like;

1. Caabudwaaq
2. Balanbale
3. Galdogob
4. Gaalkacyo
5. Cadaado
6. Dhusamareb

But he doesn't SEE IT.

Those are not JUST the locations in the rectangle; that's THE MOST IMPORTANT CENTERS OF CENTRAL SOMALIA.

The population, the economy, etc in every way you think about it. Even included in that RECTANGLE;

7. Guriceel
6. Dhabad
9. Saaxo
10. Herale
11. Gelinsoor
12. Bandiiraleey
13. Matabaan
Etc etc etc

THAT'S "MUDUG."

THAT SMALL RECTANGLE IS "GOBOLADA DHEXE" IN A NUTSHELL.

And the land in that rectangle is THE REAL BOUNDARY of life there.

That rectangle's REAL IMPORTANCE, however is it is the GATE TO HAWD GRAZING ACROSS THE BORDER.

AND HAWD GRAZING ACROSS THE BORDER IS ENTIRELY OWNED BY "DAROD."

A. Harti and Layl Kase above Geladi
B. Marehan below Galadi

That rectangle is important because it is the faultline where all of the population of Hawiye in central regions has crowded around for an ENTRANCE into the Hawd grazing which has naturally faced a Darod "wall" stretching from the Hiiraan border to the Nugaal border or the full extent of "Mudug" barring entrance into "their" grazing lands, conveniently the eastern and northeaatern parts of Hawd grazing.

I just came across a video which explained where all this started. The guy who spoke about it is mumin adan.

When an agreement was reached a decade ago sacad and mumin adan decided to put everything behind. Diyo was paid and everything. Then during the past dry season sacad's grazing suffered from the drought. Sacad requested saleebaan access to grazing and saleebaan refused due to their treacherous nature.

They then went to MA and told them to pls allow us access to your grazing as we are in peace now. MA accepted until sacad's grazing got replenished. Sacad then decided to keep this grazing in csse theirs gets worse next time. Anyways that was until they killed a dugsi teacher and were told to leave which they refused and a fight happened.

I was here in 2022 when saleebaan did the same thing with wagardhac. A peace treaty is signed, followed by hg requesting access to grazing, followed by them squatting and killing the people who hosted them. Its their standard modus operandi.

I desisted the idea of refusing grazing to poor nomadic families suffering from climate change but it seems theres no other way to solve this issue. A hard border is needed and if grazing is allowed it should come under strict rules to prevent problems.

Admittedly the Mumin A. point of view is only 1 of the perspectives in this storyline although it is certainly a very important one if not one of the principal voices particularly in Laylkase vs Sacad.

On this point, if you notice, I don't really take a position or bring a judgement to bear regarding how things SHOULD be.

That's because I have a moral/ethical quandary about doing either of that in a conflict which does not affect my personal security and safety—which—were I to bring a judgement to bear would be nothing short of an "unjust imposition" of my privileges totally denied to the unfortunate victims on both sides.

So I have no opinion on access and opportunities. I defer that to those folks there. And really I have evolved to a stage where I wouldn't even want to bring a judgement to bear as I don't feel comfortable or happy with myself bringing it to bear in something I am 3rd person as a personal point of order.😅
